“Better than Maguire” – Antonio Rudiger issues one-word verdict on Manchester United’s Eric Bailly after Liverpool win

Eric Bailly came off the bench for Manchester United in their 4-0 win over Liverpool.

Supporters will enjoy what Antonio Rudiger dubbed Manchester United defender Eric Bailly following his superb cameo during the 4-0 victory over Liverpool.

United produced an eye-catching display against their arch-rivals in Bangkok in their first match with Erik ten Hag at the helm, getting their pre-season trip off to a winning start. Ten Hag and his teammates will now fly to Australia before wrapping up their summer training in Norway.

Due to the absence of United captain Harry Maguire due to injury, the manager went with an experienced starting XI that comprised Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof at center-back. Ten Hag later emphasized youth and gave opportunities to a number of marginal players.

Bailly now falls into that category, but the Ivorian stood out after coming off the bench as goals from Jadon Sancho, Fred, Anthony Martial, and Facundo Pellistri did the damage. Bailly’s stunning run that sent supporters wild on social media also played a role in Pellistri finishing out the scoring.

It wasn’t the only digital praise Bailly received for his performance, as Real Madrid star Rudiger – who joined the La Liga champions this summer despite interest from Manchester United – messaged the 28-year-old on Instagram.

Bailly shared many photos from the Rajamangala Stadium on social media, and his post received a number of high-profile ‘likes’ and comments. Rudiger was among them, simply calling Bailly a “beast.”

In Maguire’s absence, United were captained by Bruno Fernandes, who made a point of replying on various postings made by his teammates. In reaction to Bailly, he said, ‘What a player,’ as other Manchester United players, including Anthony Elanga, made a beeline for the defender on social media.
