Benfica set huge asking price on Darwin Nunez amid Manchester United and Man City transfer links

Nunez drew attention once more on Saturday, confirming his status as one of European football’s brightest talents. The 22-year-old scored a hat-trick in Benfica’s 3-1 win over Belenenses, bringing his season total to 31 goals.

Due to his good form, the Uruguayan international has been connected with a number of prominent names ahead of the summer transfer season. United has been mentioned as a probable destination, with Nunez fitting the bill well for the Reds.

With Edinson Cavani set to leave and Cristiano Ronaldo’s future uncertain, interim manager Ralf Rangnick has already identified a striker as one of United’s summer objectives. Nunez, based on his accomplishments thus far this season, would be a welcome addition.

Should United or City decide to pursue him, he will come at a high cost. Verissimo confirmed after Benfica’s victory over Belenenses that Nunez will leave the club at some point.

The Lisbon club, on the other hand, will be hoping to duplicate their feat of obtaining a large sum for Joao Felix in 2019. In the end, the Portugal international joined Atletico Madrid for a fee of around £113 million.

“What are your thoughts? Darwin is a fantastic player who has displayed all of his abilities. He has aided the squad greatly, and the team has aided him greatly as well,” Verissimo remarked.

“As a young player with a lot of promise, it is natural that he arouses the interest of the great European teams, given his improvement this season and also a lot as a result of his performance in the Champions League games.”

“Depending on what it has demonstrated, it will be at the end of this season or the following season. It is inevitable that it will draw interest from other clubs, and there may be the timing in which it leaves.” Now, in terms of numbers, as a Benfica supporter, I hope that the club will aim for figures similar to those of Joo Félix. It is no longer my responsibility to enter numbers in that field.

“In my day-to-day interactions with the player, in what is given to us to see in training and in games, naturally we are here before a different player, and all of the different players pique the curiosity of the large European clubs.” Obviously, Darwin is included in that group.”
