Interim manager Ralf Rangnick has ruled out Harry Maguire and Jadon Sancho, while Aaron Wan-Bissaka is also a doubt.

Rangnick said that youngsters Hannibal Mejbri and Alejandro Garnacho would be back on the team and that 19-year-old left-back Alvaro Fernandez might make his matchday debut. Shola Shoretire, 18, has also been working out with the senior team.

Maguire is out with a knee injury, Sancho is out with tonsillitis, and Wan-Bissaka faces a late fitness test. Fred, Edinson Cavani, Paul Pogba (all calf), and Luke Shaw (ankle) remain sidelined. Cavani is set to return to training on Friday.

“It’s plausible,” Rangnick remarked of the possibility of including children. “We’ll be missing a number of guys tomorrow, and one or two are still questionable.” We’ll have to wait and see if Aaron Wan-Bissaka is available tomorrow.

“I used to play Hannibal at Liverpool.” It’s feasible, but we have to be fair to those guys, and the timing has to be right. They should get an opportunity to play well and perform well; it should not just be pushed into a game, but it should also be at the correct time.

“Fred is sadly not yet available; he attempted to exercise yesterday, but after training, I had a lengthy talk with him, and he simply stated that he is still not totally fit, that he is not 100 percent.” With a guy like Fred, who is always committed to giving his all, it doesn’t make sense to play him too soon with a muscular injury because we would risk re-injury, which I don’t want to do.

“Aside from that, Harry Maguire will not be available tomorrow because he has some knee difficulties, nothing major, just some niggles in his knee.” He didn’t work out yesterday or today.

“Obviously, Paul, Fred, Edinson, and Luke Shaw are all out, and Jadon is sick – he has had tonsillitis since yesterday.” He was unable to train today and will not be available tomorrow.

“We will aim to field the best team possible from the guys who are available.” Right now, it appears that we have 14 in our professional team without the young players who are available, and three or four of those young players will most likely be part of the squad.”
