Following the departure of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in January, former Arsenal striker Eduardo has urged that Bukayo Saka be appointed as the club’s new captain.
The former Croatia international has claimed that the captaincy at Arsenal isn’t always as political as it may be at other clubs, as he made the rather surprising notion that the Gunners could already promote youngster Saka to this important post.
Saka has been a big success for Arsenal after rising through their youth system, and the England international would undoubtedly be honored to wear the armband for the club he’s been with his entire career.
Still, it’s a little early for him because he’s only 20 years old, and having that kind of added strain on his young shoulders would not be optimal.

Eduardo, speaking exclusively to Ladbrokes at the introduction of the 5-A-Side bet on Crystal Palace v Arsenal, clearly believes in Saka, explaining why he believes Mikel Arteta has a good chance of becoming the next captain.
“It’s impossible to say who will be Arsenal’s future captain.” “That job isn’t always as political as it is at other clubs,” Eduardo explained.
“In other teams, it’s pretty straightforward to determine who should be captain and why, and normally it comes down to who has been there the longest, but that’s not always the case with Arsenal.”
“It was Cesc Fabregas and then Robin van Persie throughout my tenure at the club.” But it was always different after that; Per Mertesacker came in and wore the armband, you’ve had Laurent Koscielny, Granit Xhaka, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
“I believe you could cast Bukayo Saka in this part.” It has to be someone who leads by example, someone who delivers on the field, and someone who will play on a consistent basis – and you have to say he checks all of those boxes. “Perhaps they should give it to him.”
