Switzerland had imposed fresh limits on UK arrivals in reaction to the introduction of the Omicron version of Covid-19, putting the Old Trafford date in peril.

Regardless of immunization status, anyone arriving from the United Kingdom must present a negative Covid test and be quarantined for 10 days.

The notion of playing the game on December 8 at a neutral location was floated, but the Swiss club has already confirmed that this is not necessary.

The following was a statement: “The Canton of Bern has granted BSC Young Boys a special permit for away games in the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Youth League.

“This implies that the clubs’ players and personnel will not be subjected to a 10-day quarantine after returning from the UEFA Champions League match between Manchester United and YB on December 8.

“The Swiss champions would not have been allowed to play the championship games against Sion (December 12) and Basel (December 15), as well as the final game of the year on December 19 in Lugano, having just returned from quarantine.”

Young Boys have announced that players and staff would fly from Bern to Manchester on a charter flight on Tuesday and return to Switzerland on Thursday.

The team will travel in a “strictly isolated bubble,” as they have done on their previous five European away trips this season, according to the club.

“The BSC YB would like to express its gratitude to the Canton of Bern for the flexibility and exemption,” the statement said, “and will do everything in its ability to continue to act as a role model.”
