Arsenal join the race for sought after Man United top target
There aren’t many players in European football having as outstanding a season as Christopher Nkunku, who has been on fire for RB Leipzig this season and has placed Die Roten Bullen on track to win two titles.
This season, the 24-year-old has played 45 games and has an astonishing 30 goals and 19 assists, averaging a goal contribution every 0.9 games.
This has piqued the interest of numerous clubs around Europe, but according to Fichajes, just four clubs are vying for the Frenchman’s signature.
Manchester United has been connected with the attacker, although Arsenal, AC Milan, and Inter Milan are all interested.
Erik Ten Hag is poised to be appointed as United’s new manager, and a team re-think is in order ahead of next season. Nkunku would be ideal for the Dutchman because he is used to playing in a pressing system and is a flexible forward who can play in any forward position depending on the formation employed by Ajax.
Arsenal are the last club to enter the battle for the attacker, and the Frenchman would be an ideal replacement for his countryman, Alexandre Lacazette, who is poised to depart the club at the conclusion of the season. Mikel Arteta prefers to use Lacazette as a creator for the rest of his front line, and Nkunku is no stranger to the false nine role, with the Leipzig man’s statistics indicating that he excels at generating up front.
Both Milan clubs should not pose an issue for Premier League clubs if they truly want the Frenchman, since they have the financial clout to outbid the Serie A clubs.
Nkunku’s contract in Germany expires in 2023, and Leipzig expects to keep him until then, but if a significant proposal comes in for the forward, they will almost probably accept it, as they would lose the Frenchman for free the next year.
The Leipzig forward’s next destination could be determined by who of the two teams plays Champions League football next season, and another team entering the race cannot be ruled out.
