The season may be over, but there’s still much going on at Manchester United.

Following Erik ten Hag’s arrival in Manchester last week, there has been a lot more activity at Old Trafford. Andy O’Boyle was named the club’s first deputy football director on Tuesday.

O’Boyle, 39, has stepped down as Premier League head of elite performance to assist United football director John Murtough, who had the same position as O’Boyle when he joined the club in 2013.

On Wednesday afternoon, United confirmed the exits of Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard. Pogba is set to return to Juventus, where he joined United in 2012, while West Ham is keen on re-signing Lingard following his good loan.

1. At Manchester United, Paul Pogba has failed to satisfy Zinedine Zidane’s declaration.

While Paul Pogba’s brilliance has never been in doubt, his departure from Manchester United is a clear indication of his career thus far.

Pogba’s second term with the Reds will end this summer, with United confirming on Wednesday that he will leave the club at the conclusion of his contract. He is now expected to return to Juventus, with the Turin club apparently close to completing a deal for the 29-year-old.

Of course, the midfielder has won the biggest trophy of all, the World Cup, and was essential in France’s World Cup victory in 2018. Nonetheless, his club career remains a significant unknown.

2. David de Gea pays poignant homage to Juan Mata following Manchester United’s departure

After it was reported that Juan Mata will be leaving Manchester United, goalkeeper David de Gea wrote a heartfelt letter to the midfielder.

Mata arrived from Chelsea in January 2014 for a then club-record fee of £37.1 million. During his time in Manchester, the 34-year-old won the FA Cup, League Cup, and Europa League, starting all three finals.

Mata, on the other hand, struggled to break into the first team on a regular basis last season, making only 12 appearances for the club, and with his contract ending at the end of this month, the decision was taken for the Spaniard to leave United. De Gea, who has played for both the Reds and Spain alongside Mata, paid tribute to his comrade on Instagram.

3. Torres is getting closer to joining United, according to reports.

I’m not sure what to make of this one. According to sources close to Pau Torres, a move to United is imminent. When purchasing Raphael Varane for £34 million last summer, United identified the Spaniard as a backup option, and his name has resurfaced as a target.

Jurrien Timmer, the Ajax starlet, is still a key defensive priority, according to MEN.

However, according to transfer expert Dean Jones, there are some indications that Torres may be moving closer to Old Trafford in time for next season.

4. United makes a decision on the future of Levitt

Following an outstanding season on loan with Dundee United, United has activated Dylan Levitt’s one-year contract extension.

Levitt was in the final month of his contract, but United chose to exercise their option for an additional year, tying the midfielder to the club until 2023 and will make a decision on whether he stays for the remainder of his contract or leaves for a fee to gain the first-team playing time he clearly deserves.

It comes just one day after Levitt delivered a mature display for Wales in their Nations League defeat to Poland, his 11th senior international appearance.
