United have named the Dutchman as their favorite choice to take over as manager at Old Trafford on a permanent basis. Mauricio Pochettino, who has been linked with a transfer to United since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s dismissal last November, is also still in the running.

Ten Hag has emerged as the best candidate to lead United forward in recent weeks, despite the fact that the process has not yet been completed. The Dutchman has built a dynamic Ajax team that has seen the likes of Donny van de Beek, Frenkie de Jong, and Matthijs de Ligt leave for huge money.

Van der Sar, the manager of Ajax, has already hinted that contingency preparations will be in place if the two-time Eredivisie champion leaves, telling Dutch TV channel RTL7 last year: “This shows that we are doing something right.” The same is true for the players.

“When we perform, people are interested.” If our players or coach are of interest, we’ve all been blown away in the past. So be it; we must ensure that we are prepared by then. That the lists have been completed.”
