The Washington Commanders Will Trade Emmanuel Forbes for Jermaine Burton on the Cincinnati Bengals

With the trade deadline quickly approaching we need to look at moves that teams can make to improve for a playoff run. Both the Cincinnati Bengals and the Washington Commanders are pushing to make the playoffs and build teams behind their star quarterbacks. The Commanders are reportedly gauging interest in potentially trading their 2023 first round pick in cornerback Emmanuel Forbes. He hasn’t been what the Commanders thought he would be up to this point, and a change of scenery might help him flourish. The Cincinnati Bengals picked Jermaine Burton in the third round of the 2024 draft, and things haven’t worked out the way he or the Bengals had hoped up to this point either. That’s why a swap of players makes the most sense from these situations. The Bengals should send Jermaine Burton to the Commanders for Emmanuel Forbes.

When you look at this from the Commanders side of things, Forbes hasn’t been what they thought he would be coming out of Mississippi State this past year. Forbes had 14 interceptions while at Mississippi State, six of which he returned for a touchdown. He had a nose for the ball that just hasn’t shown up in the NFL. Add in that his size has always been a concern and those concerns have shown up in the NFL. Forbes has fallen out of favor in Washington and, despite them not having a good passing defense, hasn’t been able to really play his way into a big role for them. On the offensive side of the ball, Jayden Daniels has been one of the best quarterbacks in the league already as a rookie.
