Jeremy Swayman is not the reason the Bruins lost last year. It was their lack of goal scoring. He does deserve more money, how much is the question. If the Bruins want to go further this year they need to sign Swayman and improve their goal scoring. If they can’t do both or just won’t do both. They can just be happy with getting knock out of the playoffs every year by Florida. Or they can put their money where their mouth is and win. It’s up to them. They don’t have to make him the highest paid goaltender just make him happy. And then pickup some help for the forwards to score more goals. Do they want to win or just have high ticket prices for a playoff losing team?
If the Bruins offered Swayman 7 for 4 years he would sign that deal and be at practice this morning. 64mil sounds like alot but in 4 years he will be extremely underpaid with where the cap is heading. It’s also not fair to compare him to goalies who signed long term deals before covid, those deals only look terrible because of the cap not moving.
Trading Ullmark was the ultimate shoot yourself in the foot move. Either make room and pay him 9.5 or give him a bridge deal but the clock is ticking. You can’t give someone all the leverage then expect to get them to sign a deal in your best interest. Also probably not the best idea to then go complain to the press and fans to turn everyone against the player you are trying to sign.
