Phil Collins’ son, 18, signs deal with top football team who had no idea he was related to 72-year-old rock legend
The midfielder, whose mum is Collins’ Swiss ex-wife Oriane Cevey, 49, played for Hannover last season.
However the German club’s Under-19 bosses decided to release Mathew earlier this summer.
The teenager has now landed a deal with WSG Tirol after impressing on trial.
And he will hope the move propels him to football stardom Against All Odds.
Mathew will play for their reserve side, named WSG Tirol Juniors, in Austria’s fourth division.
They are based at Wattens, near Innsbruck in the western Tyrol province.
Coach Manuel Ludwiger said: “We Google the players we take on trial to find out about their past careers.
“It was only then that we found out Mathew is Phil Collins’ son.
We haven’t signed him as a publicity stunt. It is purely down to his footballing ability.”
Ludwiger will no doubt ask Collins Jr to Turn It On Again following an impressive performance.
WSG Tirol announced: “Twelve new signings are taking part in our second team’s pre-season preparations.
“Raphael Gschosser (17), Raphael Rauch (19), … Mathew Collins (18) and Aldin Jeina (18) will strengthen our midfield.”
