Manchester United’s players returned to training on Thursday in preparation for their trip to Elland Road on Sunday.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes gave Ralf Rangnick’s side a much-needed lift by securing three points against Brighton on Tuesday.

Rangnick’s side returned to the Champions League places after the win, but Arsenal, Wolves, and Tottenham all have games in hand on United.

Leeds will be looking for vengeance after being thrashed at Old Trafford on the first day of the season, with Fernandes scoring a hat-trick and Paul Pogba playing a key role in his side’s victory.

As the clock ticks down to what promises to be a thrilling match, we’ve compiled a list of four things we noticed during Thursday’s practise session.

After his brush with COVID, the former started on the bench for the win over Graham Potter’s team, but Fred returned to the starting XI before being withdrawn in the second half.

It’s unclear if there will be any alterations for the trip to Elland Road.

Relief for Fernandes

After scoring the elusive second goal at Old Trafford on Tuesday with a spectacular solo run, Fernandes was all smiles during training.

The 27-year-old was relieved to have reached the back of the goal as he helped United return to winning form.

His eighth goal of the season came late in the game, and he’ll be hoping to add to that total on Sunday.

an increase in selection

Rangnick received a lift in the selection process for this weekend’s match when Raphael Varane returned to first-team training after overcoming a gastrointestinal illness.

United fans will be happy to see the French defender return, albeit Rangnick now faces a selection issue following Victor Lindelof’s excellent performance on Tuesday.

In the meantime, Edinson Cavani returned to action after missing the win over Brighton.

Hannibal continues to draw attention.

Rangnick is keeping an eye on Tunisian youngster Hannibal Mejbri, who has remained in first-team training.

The teenager didn’t get as much playing time as he would have liked at the Africa Cup of Nations, but he’ll be looking to make an impact in the United senior team before the season ends.
