Sunderland’s seventh senior acquisition of the summer, but the first for new manager Tony Mowbray, is the 20-year-old attacker. Diallo’s departure comes barely 24 hours after United signed Antony.

United will pay Ajax an initial fee of £81.3 million for the Brazilian winger, making him the fourth most expensive transfer in Premier League history. And his arrival has allowed Erik ten Hag to loan Diallo out.
The winger joined United in January 2021 in a move worth £37 million to the Red Devils. However, the large investment in the former Atalanta star has yet to pay off.

Diallo has shown flashes of ability, although he has only played 167 minutes of Premier League games. Ralf Rangnick, Rangers’ interim manager last season, permitted the Ivory Coast international to join on loan.

Diallo returned to Ibrox in the summer after scoring three goals in 13 outings since January.

“I feel fantastic and really positive about this opportunity, so I’m glad to be here,” Diallo told Sunderland’s website.

“It was a fantastic experience to play for Manchester United, but I’m here for a fresh challenge and I’m determined to bring the club a lot of success.”

“I feel well physically, and I believe this is the best squad for me to advance with, and although I’ve never been to the Stadium of Light before, I hear the fans are fantastic, so I hope we can win many games together.”

United wished the child well and added that they will be keeping a close eye on his progress.

“The winger will work with new Sunderland manager Tony Mowbray.” “Amad will acquire further Championship experience, continuing his development in a new environment, while being constantly monitored and supported by United professionals,” read a United statement.

“Everyone wishes Amad the best of luck this semester as we monitor his progress at the Stadium of Light.”

Sunderland had already confirmed the signing of Edouard Michut, a 19-year-old Paris St Germain midfielder. This was quickly followed by a permanent contract for Le Havre teenager Abdullah Ba.
