I Will Make Them Rejoice: Reading FC Star Andy Yiadom to Contribute $20 Million to Local School Renovation Project…
Reading, UK — In a heartfelt move that’s winning admiration across Berkshire, Reading FC captain Andy Yiadom has pledged an extraordinary $20 million towards renovating underfunded local schools in what he’s calling the “I Will Make Them Rejoice” initiative.
Known for his resilience and leadership on the pitch, Yiadom is now channelling his influence toward transforming education for thousands of children. The defender, who has represented both Reading FC and the Ghanaian national team with pride, unveiled his ambitious plan during a special event at the Madejski Stadium on Saturday, drawing praise from educators, fans, and civic leaders.
“This is personal to me,” Yiadom said during his announcement. “I grew up in a community where we didn’t always have the best facilities, but we had people who believed in us. Now I want to be one of those people for the next generation. I will make them rejoice by giving them the spaces they deserve to grow, learn, and dream.”
The $20 million initiative is set to fund major upgrades across at least ten public schools in Reading and surrounding areas. The renovation plans include refurbishing classrooms, modernising libraries and computer labs, enhancing sports and recreational areas, and improving overall accessibility for students with special needs.
Each project will be coordinated through a new foundation Yiadom is launching under the same name as the initiative. The foundation aims to collaborate closely with local councils, educators, and parents to ensure that community voices are central in every decision.
Reading Borough Council leader Clare Chambers expressed her gratitude following the announcement. “This is more than generous—it’s visionary. Andy Yiadom is showing what true leadership looks like. His investment will not only modernise our schools but energise our communities for years to come.”
Yiadom, 33, joined Reading FC in 2018 and has since established himself as a reliable and inspirational figure both on and off the field. Beyond football, he has quietly supported several youth-focused initiatives and regularly visits local schools to encourage students to pursue their dreams.
The first round of renovations is expected to begin in early 2026, with initial work focused on schools most in need of urgent repair. In addition to physical improvements, the “I Will Make Them Rejoice” foundation will also support after-school programmes, mentorships, and mental health resources for students.
Fans and fellow players have taken to social media to applaud the move, with many calling it “a goal for the whole community.”
“This is just the beginning,” Yiadom added. “We’re building places where kids feel safe, inspired, and supported. If even one child believes more in their future because of this, then it’s all been worth it.”
As Andy Yiadom continues to shine in Reading’s backline, he’s now also scoring something even greater: hope, joy, and opportunity for the next generation.
