Wrexham, Wales – In a groundbreaking move, the management of Wrexham A.F.C. has announced plans to establish a basketball team that will compete in the British Basketball League (BBL). The new team, which is expected to begin play in the 2025-2026 season, will mark a significant expansion of the club’s sporting offerings and provide a new source of excitement for fans in Wrexham and beyond.
According to Wrexham A.F.C.’s CEO, Humphrey Ker, the decision to establish a basketball team was driven by a desire to diversify the club’s sporting portfolio and increase its presence in the local community. “We are thrilled to announce our plans to join the British Basketball League,” said Ker. “This is a fantastic opportunity for us to expand our sporting offerings and provide a new source of entertainment for our fans. The new basketball team will be based at the Glyndwr University Sports Centre, which will undergo renovations to accommodate the team. The team’s name, logo, and branding will be announced in the coming weeks, and the club will begin recruiting players and coaching staff shortly.
Wrexham A.F.C.’s management has appointed a new basketball committee, which will be responsible for overseeing the development of the new team. The committee will be chaired by former Welsh basketball international, Mark Owen, who has a wealth of experience in the sport.
