Report: Las Vegas Raiders to Hire Saints Defensive Coordinator Joe Woods
Unsurprisingly, the New Orleans Saints are going to lose another assistant coach.
As first reported by Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports, Joe Woods is joining the Las Vegas Raiders. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler said he’ll be the team’s defensive pass-game coordinator, while another report says he’ll be a senior defensive assistant.
Woods was the defensive coordinator for the Saints for the past two seasons and got increased responsibilities once Dennis Allen got fired. Under him, New Orleans got some major growth from some of their cornerbacks, where Woods would primarily coach. Players like Isaac Yiadom, Paulson Adebo and Alontae Taylor would all have their moments with Woods being their primary mentor.
Losing Woods is hardly a surprise, as an almost brand new coaching staff is expected to get hired by the Saints. Zenitz added that Marcus Robertson could also follow him to join Pete Carroll’s staff.
The Saints will likely get their new head coach shortly after the Super Bowl, with the expectation being that Kellen Moore is their guy. New Orleans will have their coaching staff come together pretty quickly, as they should all be together when the NFL Combine happens at the end of the month.
