Top NHL Draft prospect Michael Misa suspended for actions on teddy bear night

Michael Misa landed in teddy bear trouble after an OHL game on Sunday.

The OHL issued a one-game suspension to the Saginaw Spirit star on Wednesday, citing his game misconduct for shooting objects out of the playing surface, as a result of his actions during Sunday’s teddy bear toss game between against the host Sarnia Sting.

Fans are encouraged to toss bears onto the ice after the home team’s first goal, then the toys are later donated to charity in the annual event at many junior hockey rinks.

After stuffed animals flooded the rink, the highly regarded 2025 NHL Draft prospect shot three over the boards and back at the fans.

Video posted by YourTV Sarnia shows Misa flipping three of the soft toys over the glass.

Misa has 25 goals and 49 points in 25 games this season, putting him second in the OHL scoring race.

Misa was granted exceptional-player status and allowed into the OHL Draft a year before normal eligibility in 2022. The Spirit picked the native of Oakville, Ont., first overall and he went on to help Saginaw win the Memorial Cup on home ice last season.

Misa served his suspension on Wednesday against the Soo Greyhounds.
