Michael Strahan, former NFL player and co-host of Fox’s NFL Sunday, recently faced backlash over his conduct during a Veteran’s Day-themed broadcast at Naval Base San Diego. While the national anthem played, Strahan stood with his hands folded in front of him, differing from his co-hosts, who held their hands over their hearts. Some viewers perceived this gesture as disrespectful to veterans, sparking a wave of criticism online.
Strahan, however, defended himself, explaining that his actions were not intended as a protest. He expressed deep respect for the military, noting his own father’s service in the U.S. Army. On social media, Strahan paid tribute to veterans and highlighted the contributions of his father, Major Gene W. Strahan, who served in the 82nd Airborne Division. Strahan’s co-host Jay Glazer also defended him, emphasizing Strahan’s longstanding respect and support for veterans, including his personal donations to veterans’ organizations.
Although the incident caused public outrage, many have rallied in support of Strahan, acknowledging his consistent respect for the military and his personal family connections to it.
