Erik ten Hag, grappling with numerous injuries that saw up to 13 players sidelined simultaneously, has encountered a season filled with setbacks for the Red Devils.

Despite a successful debut campaign last season, the team has regressed with 12 defeats so far, matching the total from the previous season.

One player significantly impacted by injuries is Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen, who joined the club from Brentford in the summer of 2022.

Initially enjoying a promising start, Eriksen’s debut season was marred by a dangerous tackle from Reading striker Andy Carroll, resulting in a lengthy absence since suffering a knee injury against Luton Town in November at Old Trafford.

Eriksen, expressing his eagerness to return, provided an update on his progress, stating, “Yeah, I hope so.

Like you said, it was the first part of training with the team [on Monday] and it felt good, so it’s going well. I think it’s always annoying to be on the side, no matter for how long, and definitely now.

When it takes a little bit longer than you wished for, then obviously it’s hard, but no, I was eager to come back as soon as I could.”

With Donny van de Beek nearing a loan move to Eintracht Frankfurt, Eriksen’s return becomes crucial for bolstering squad depth.

His presence, alongside Kobbie Mainoo and Sofyan Amrabat in the midfield, could have been influential, especially in managing possession and transitioning play effectively.

As Manchester United faces a demanding schedule in the coming weeks, having the experienced Danish midfielder back in action will play a pivotal role in enhancing squad depth and addressing the challenges posed by the ongoing season.
