In the run-up to the transfer deadline, Juventus allegedly rejected down the opportunity to purchase Manchester United’s Edinson Cavani in exchange for Cristiano Ronaldo.

 

On Tuesday, Ronaldo officially re-joined the Red Devils from the Serie A giants, signing a two-year contract with the option to extend it by another year.

 

The Italian side also stated that £12.9 million will be paid upfront, with a further £6.9 million arriving in add-ons.

 

On deadline day, Juventus replaced Ronaldo with Everton striker Moise Kean. However, according to Calciomercato, they were approached about signing Cavani, as was financially troubled Barcelona.

According to the report, Juventus never contemplated signing Cavani. The explanation cited is that they were not prepared to pay such a large sum to attract a player.

 

Cavani will remain at Old Trafford, but with a new short number after Ronaldo stole his No.7. The Uruguayan is assigned the number 21, which he also wears for his country.

 

Last season, the 34-year-old striker appeared in 39 games for United in all competitions, scoring 17 goals and providing six assists.
